I’ve never been to Vegas. Heard it’s kind of fun.

To be quite honest with you, Vegas kind of scares me. I think the amount of people would do me in…

But when I found out two good friends of mine are getting married there this fall, I made the decision.

I’m going to Las Vegas!

And with it not happening until the fall, I thought I would show off our Vegas inspired treats in the mean time

Did some cupcakes for LITE NITE yesterday and that got me thinking about all the cakes we do for all the fantastic organizations, businesses and groups that call the exchange their home, along with being our neighbours. Lots of art and film based organizations especially. These cake’s were both for birthdays, but I’ll do some posts featuring some of our favorite cakes. In the mean here some of our favorite film cakes!

January has been a little slow, as expected. I have a list a mile long of all the little odds and ends of things we’ve been putting off doing, so we have stayed super busy. Lots of crafting, lots of cleaning. And the one thing I’ve been procrastinating on for months?

Photo organizing.

Wow.

What a task in itself. Each week we do anywhere from 10-40 cakes, cupcakes and treats; ranging in all kinds of categories. Each one gets photographed, usuallly more than once (it’s often hard to take in the context of a 3D image in one photo) and then I dump them onto my hard drive.

I used to love playing with my photos and cropping them, adjusting the light etc. Then do a quick upload onto the blog and voila. But when I go to look at photo’s to select one and there are literally thousands of them, and none are ready to be shown off, it has become a task I’ve been avoiding. Thus the lack of blogging. I thought for awhile perhaps the ole’blog was a bit of a fad for me, I lost interest, I lost the desire. But now that Jenn has been fastidiously working away and chipping away at all the files, I’m seeing pictures again, and I’m excited to share them.

I’m seeing cakes again that I’ve almost forgotten about. Lots of fun stuff! I’m pretty excited to be back online and with all kinds of fun to show off. Feeling a little musical today, thus these guys. Violins and tuba’s. I hope to keep you entertained now that the weather has made it super frosty again outside. Come and snuggle up to the warm little computer…

Sometimes the simplicity of an idea is deceiving. Black scrolls, piped onto white fondant. Simple pretty bouquet to top, black ribbon to wrap.

Easy-peasy.

And then my hand goes numb after two hours of holding a piping bag, making swirls.

Sigh.

Win some you lose some. I do love this cake though, and ask me, I’d jump at the chance to make it again

I’d just like to send a thanks out to all of you who are helping me become a well rounded individual. I now know a little bit about so many things I never thought I would ever know.
